Hi hi! Today’s blog is something new I want to incorporate on the blog: An Illustration spotlight! I’ll talk about my inspiration, the vibe of the piece and we’ll also check out some charm points! This week I’ll be spotlighting my newest piece I’ve titled: Snow Cat.
This piece features a blue haired girl decked in a white cat-eared hooded clock with huge red checked scarf and boots modeled after paws. Originally, I wanted to redraw my old Teru Teru Bozu piece. I liked the colors used in the piece and thought about creating a character wearing a similar cloak carrying an umbrella. Then I drew the cat ears… The whole piece was giving digital snow vibes so I went in a completely different direction. I deiced to keep the original colors of the TTB piece but instead of black I added navy blue. I wanted to give the character a blank expression as they walked though the snow. Leaving the viewer to imagine where they’re going. Now Let’s check out some of the charm points!

I thought the clock needed something like a pocket or some sort of detailing so I went with a patterned I’d imaged was hand embroidered on using embroidery floss to resemble snowflakes.
I like the cold and mysterious expression for this character. I imagine this character doesn’t talk much or is very animated in their feels, but you can tell how they feel through their eyes as they shine with a sense of wonder.
What can I say here besides I looove a scalloped edge! It’s the perfect touch of whimsical innocence to an already super cute cloak. The kitty paw shaped boots completes this winter feline ensemble.
I hope you all love Snow Cat as much as be an maybe we’ll see this character again! I really enjoyed working with this limited palette of cool tones with a pop of bright red.
Until next time,
